I am fat.
You know those days where you just feel so overwhelmed with your body shape and looks… I was having a day of all days one morning. I know what triggered it and maybe you know what triggers those days in your life, it doesn’t really matter, it will still consume you and take over. I believe it is our enemy (satan) who whispers all day long in our ears that we are not good enough for our husbands, we have no clothes that even fit, and our children our secretly hoping they never grow up to look like us. Some of us don’t struggle with actual pounds, it may be cellulite, acne, grey hair, low muscle tone… The list goes on! Why do we beat ourselves up?
That afternoon my sister sent me this article!
WARNING: the article is amazing and life changing, however the choice of words in a few parts are not appropriate and I find them offensive!
I cried my heart out and pondered for a long time. Where did I learn I was “fat”? Am I teaching my girls that they will be “fat” someday? Does my husband really see me the way I see myself? When will this cycle of “fat” stop? How do I become free from “fat”?
I showed the article to my husband and decided I would no longer be part of the problem. He gently reminded me that it was not even acceptable to complain to him about my body anymore. Why do we do that to our husbands? Who taught us those thoughts? Why is the enemy allowed to be in our bedrooms when we are alone with our husbands?
I am very aware that our culture is saturated with a need to be thin and attractive. We have pressure from every angle to buy products and pills to “fix” our imperfections! We are supposed to strive to look like the girls in the magazines! Watch this video if you want to know how they get to look the way they do!
We CAN choose to be free! We can agree with God that we are wonderfully made in His image! We can pray to be able to enjoy the times with our husbands! We can train our children that they were made perfect with no mistakes by our Creator!
Wear a hair tie around your wrist for the next week. Every time you look into a mirror or get that frumpy feeling, stop and proclaim you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God!
Tell your children about their Creator. Explain to them how He made their freckles, birthmarks and round cheeks so they would be unique in this world. He desires for them to shine with the inner beauty He has placed inside of them.
Together let’s stop passing on the knowledge of being fat and not good enough for anyone! Instead praise the Lord for our lives!6 Comments
